In our interdisciplinary lecture series 'Ethics & Globalization' the probing questions of globalization shall be examined in analytic depth and evaluated ethically. Therefore, the Working Group 'Plural Economics' invited a series of well-known speakers. The Professorship for International Governance would like to invite you to attend this semester's lecture series »Wealth & Justice«. It is organised in cooperation with vub. e.V. Bayreuth and the Department of Philosophy.

The idea of this lecture series is to have a fresh look at the welfare state and the role it plays in creating wealth and justice. The series of lectures will cover topics in economic history, social policy, globalization, and distributive justice and to show how the welfare state is not something that is antagonistic to economic growth and development but very much part of it.

Talk by Prof. Rodney Garrat, Former Vice President of the FED New York: »Segregated Balance Accounts« on December 08

The Federal Reserve in the United States responded to the 2007-09 financial crisis and its aftermath with a variety of monetary policy measures that dramatically increased the supply of reserves. This talk describes a concept for a new monetary policy tool, segregated balance accounts (SBAs), which would improve competition in money markets, reduce system-wide balance sheet costs and could be used to strengthen the floor on overnight interest rates created by the payment of IOER (interest on excess reserves).

Studientagung an der Universität Bayreuth »Verteilung im Blick der Wirtschaftswissenschaften« 19.-20. Juni

Die Schere zwischen Arm und Reich wird immer größer. Nicht erst seit Piketty ist die Frage nach der (gerechten) Verteilung verschiedenster Güter eine der wichtigsten am Schnittpunkt von Ökonomik und Philosophie. Um einer Vielzahl verschiedener Perspektiven zu diesem Thema ein gemeinsames Forum zu bieten, lädt der Arbeitskreis Plurale Ökonomik am 19. und 20. Juni zu einer Studientagung an der Universität Bayreuth. In drei verschiedenen Themenblöcken soll dabei durch hochwertige Vorträge etablierter ProfessorInnen und anregende Workshops jüngerer NachwuchsforscherInnen ein Umfeld geschaffen werden, in dem kreatives Denken und Arbeiten sowie intensiver wissenschaftlicher Austausch beflügelt wird. Die öffentliche Tagung richtet sich an interessierte Studierende aller Fachrichtungen.
